25/26.04.2024: Swakopmund and Walvis Bay

After a peaceful stay at Tsauchab River Camp, we pack up and continue our journey north through the stunning Namib-Naukluft National Park. As we traverse the park, we are greeted by towering sand dunes, ancient valleys and stunning landscapes that stretch seemingly endlessly in every direction. Every turn offers another postcard-worthy scene.
Our route takes us over the Tropic of Capricorn, which marks our transition into the southern hemisphere. It is a moment to pause and reflect on the natural wonders that surround our planet.

Arriving in Swakopmund, we are greeted by the refreshing sea breeze and the charming mix of colonial architecture and vibrant modernity. Our accommodation for the next leg of our journey is the elegant A La Mer Hotel, which is perfectly located and offers breathtaking views of the Atlantic Ocean. We spend the afternoon shopping in the boutiques and craft shops that are spread throughout the town.

The next day we set off on an unforgettable dolphin tour from nearby Walvis Bay. We set off early in the morning with a local guide and board a boat to explore the region's rich marine life. As we cruise along the coast we can see playful dolphins frolicking in the waves and gliding effortlessly through the water. It is a fascinating sight that fills us with awe and wonder.

As we continue our journey we also encounter seals, pelicans and a variety of seabirds, making the experience even more magical. The vastness of the Atlantic Ocean stretching out before us reminds us of the beauty and diversity of the natural world. After our exciting dolphin encounter we return to land and spend the rest of the day in Swakopmund.

For dinner, we treat ourselves to a delicious meal at The Tug, a renowned restaurant overlooking the ocean. With its cozy atmosphere and delicious seafood, it is the perfect end to our day of exploration.
