Hut weekend Wildschönau 2001

In order to revive an old tradition at the KDStV Schwarzwald, some old gentlemen of the association in Munich have decided to invite the active members to a weekend in a hut.

In previous semesters, the group regularly traveled to Altglashütten in the Black Forest to spend a hearty weekend in the hut of a friendly corporation from Freiburg. Unfortunately, this tradition died out a few years ago and we would like to revive it. These pages serve to describe the destination in more detail and to give a brief review.

The destination of the trip is Wildschönau near Wörgl in Austria. Martina can reserve a hut there at the Markbachjoch. The hut is simply furnished and can only be reached via a toll road or the cable car (after a short descent). The description of the hut, which can be found on the internal pages of HypoVereinsbank, can be viewed here by anyone. We have also put together some information on logistics for the participants.

Since there is only limited space available, we may have to restrict the number of participants. Of course, active people and Keil guests have priority (okay, Whopper is also considered an active person...). Women are also welcome, even if a strict separation of the two bedrooms is probably not feasible.

You can find a summary of the events of the first hut weekend in Wildschönau from 1st to 4th November here.

Wildschönau – Simply close to nature

A self-catering mountain hut

You will find pure nature and the incomparable experience of a hut community in this romantic HypoVereinsbank mountain hut in the Wildschönau. Days full of activities and experiences that will be a lot of fun: group hikes or ski tours, a toboggan ride in winter, a torch-lit hike in summer. And then it's time for the "hut magic".

Cabin life like “back in the day”

So, find a hand-picked group, pack your sleeping bag or bedding and some food - and off you go. A wealth of leisure activities await you:

  • Skiing and cross-country skiing
  • Mountain tours
  • Alpine ski tours with and without guide
  • Cable car ascent to the hut
  • Mountain biking

The mountain hut, which you can reach by cable car or, depending on the season, by car on a toll road, is just the right place for a communal experience.

After a successful day with family, friends or colleagues, an evening full of coziness begins. What could be nicer than sitting in front of a crackling fire, drinking a glass of mulled wine, playing cards, talking to each other and ending the day with a meal prepared together?

Enjoy the days in the fresh air: after all, Wildschönau is one of the most beautiful skiing and hiking areas in Austria, with a season all year round. Whether you're a recreational or active sports enthusiast, both will get their money's worth here.

Over 50 kilometers of hiking trails, which are cleared even in winter, lead through the charming high valley of the Kitzbühel Alps. 42 kilometers of groomed ski slopes await beginners and experts alike. There are also 30 kilometers of cross-country ski trails.

Activities:

Alpine skiing, cross-country skiing, mountain hikes, ski touring, climbing tours, mountain biking.

Miscellaneous:

This mountain hut is a self-catering hut. Please organize your catering arrangements as a group and remember to bring your sleeping bag or bedding.

It should be noted at this point that the hut has since burned down. Fortunately, we had nothing to do with this accident.

getting there

The journey to the hut is made in a private car, the petrol costs are reimbursed by the AH fund. Since the hut itself can only be reached via a toll road (approx. € 20) and there are no official parking spaces available at the top, (almost) all cars have to stop at the valley station of the Markbachjoch cable car.

You can get to Niederau by taking the A8 from Munich towards Salzburg and then from the Inntal junction on the A93 towards Kufstein until you reach Kufstein. If you don't have a "Pickerl", you can save yourself the trouble of buying one and drive from Kufstein-Süd on the main road that runs parallel to the motorway to Wörgl. From there, you go down into the valley to Niederau (830m) and then you just have to find the Markbachjochbahn. From Munich, it's 1½ - 2 hours to Niederau. In bad weather conditions, winter tires are highly recommended!

One or two cars will drive up the toll road with the groceries and as much luggage as possible. There is also a hotel up there where we can park the "transport cars". The cable car is no longer running, so if the weather is good most people will walk up. If that's not such a great idea, however, everyone can of course drive up by car. However, this costs a toll and is only recommended if you have winter gear.

The route from the motorway via the private road to the hut is as follows from Wörgl-Ost/Kirchbichl:

  • B 170 towards Kitzbühel: behind Kirchbichl turn right over the bridge into Brixental.
  • After 5.6 km in Hopfgarten, go under the railway bridge and go straight on (do not follow the right of way), turn right into Penningbergstraße towards Markbachjoch.
  • After 10.6 km take the 7th street on the right into Flecklweg towards Markbachjoch.
  • After 11.6 km, keep right at the fork towards Markbachjoch.
  • To the farm, toll must be paid here
  • Continue following the road until you reach the Panorama Hotel; the hut is also located there.

Furnishing

The hut is very simply equipped:

  • There is running hot water, but no showers.
  • The sleeping quarters are equipped with a wool blanket and pillow.
  • The kitchen has everything you need.
  • Heating is provided by a “Bullerofen” (bull stove), for which wood is available; however, this still needs to be chopped.
  • Cleaning supplies for the final cleaning on Sunday are available on site.

Therefore, it is essential to bring the following with you:

  • Sleeping bag or bedding
  • Hand towel
  • Sturdy hiking boots
  • Slippers
  • Drinking bottle
  • Weatherproof and warm clothing
  • flashlight
  • The Sch!-Krug
  • Cake for the afternoon

Of course, this event will take place in plenis coloribus.

Active trip to the Wildschönau

In previous semesters, the group regularly traveled to Altglashütten in the Black Forest to spend a hearty weekend in the hut of the KDStV Falkenstein in the CV of Freiburg. Unfortunately, this tradition died out a few years ago and the unofficial Munich circle suggested reviving it.

Nov 1: The shortest connection between two points

The destination of the trip was Niederau in the Wildschönau near Wörgl in Austria. Martina Hecker, wife of Bbr. AH Jörg Hecker v/o Jöhe, was able to reserve a hut at the Markbachjoch through her employer. The hut is simply furnished and can only be reached via a toll road or the cable car (after a short descent). So much for the theory, because at the time of arrival on November 1st 2001 the cable car was already being overhauled and was closed.

Die HVB-HütteFor this reason, only three "luggage wagons" drove up the toll road, while most of the hut residents joined an experienced and conditioned mountain hiker, Bbr. Diesel. The experience, however, was unanimously agreed to relate to mountain hiking in general, not to the Markbachjoch in particular. This resulted in a few detours, so that the Aktivitas' local knowledge was already significantly expanded on the first afternoon. As their local knowledge grew, so did the realization that the shortest route between two points is a straight line. So this short route was ultimately chosen - a daring decision when you consider the 700 meters of elevation of this straight line.

Once at the top, Bbr. AH Markus Balb v/o Häberle awaited the hiking group with the first freshly tapped pilsner and a delicious roast pork. In addition, Bbr. Guido had earned the new beer name Heizer through his scout methods at the wood stove.

Thanks to the refreshment, even Bbr. AH Jörg Katzenmaier v/o Jöka quickly forgot the exertions of the first ascent and everyone took the announcement that they would be up at 7:00 the next morning surprisingly calmly. Or was it exhaustion? Rather unlikely, because things continued to get lively during the course of the evening (and night). So the beer supplies were tackled with determination and the songbooks that had been brought along proved very useful.

2 Nov.: Good luck

The wake-up call was organized the next morning by Cbr. AH Christian Fischer v/o Crifi and, given the rising sun, it was quickly answered. This was always the date that separated the wheat from the chaff during the hut weekends in the Black Forest (the chronicler was usually one of the late risers). Unfortunately, we could not allow any major delays as we had a tour of the Lehenlahn silver mine near Thierbach.

A car transporting pregnant women and groceries was quickly identified, and all the others, with only one exception, headed for the parking lot in the valley on foot - on the straight mentioned above. Given the nighttime frost and the increased speed of the marathon runners, this was sometimes a somewhat daring undertaking. However, this meant that we arrived at the parking lot at about the same time as the car driving along the toll road. There we were able to use the time for a futile attempt to correct the winter tires that had been incorrectly fitted to Benedikt's car.

After a short drive through the Wildschönau, we found the old silver mine right on time. After singing the miners' song "Glück auf", an experienced guide led us through the sometimes very narrow tunnels and told us about the history of the 140-year-old mine. Unfortunately, everyone only gained more experience, as no one was able to get their hands on any precious metals or stones. So the nice weather and the bad air in the tunnel ("Flatulence of Peter") drove us back to the surface and to have a snack in the snack station.

Die Teilnehmer vor dem BergwerkIn the late afternoon, Diesel set a new record: 700 meters of altitude in less than 40 minutes - when he arrived, the food had not even been unloaded from the car. For one it was a record, for another it was a strain; however, no one was slower than 1½ hours and the Munich circle was positively surprised by the athletic activity.

So after a hearty dinner, Häberle had to re-plan his program for the "hiking day". Initially, a short hike to the neighboring peak was planned, but the fitness of those present made more challenging goals necessary. So the highest peak in the vicinity was sought out and set as a new goal for the next day.

3 Nov: Hiking day

The morning brought the first losses: three fraternity brothers were recovering after a long night and were consistently avoiding any physical exertion. The rest were highly motivated by the once again wonderful weather and after breakfast they set off.

Compared to the "normal" way home, the path seemed to have a moderate gradient. But we were rewarded with a wonderful mountain panorama and first-class views. After 2½ hours we finally reached the summit and took time for the snack we had brought with us. The infrastructure of the area and the shoulder season left no room for a stop at a hut with catering, but we had the mountain almost to ourselves.

When we returned, those who had stayed at home were waiting for us, trying in vain to finish the beer. Unfortunately, they were also unable to eat dinner with the fraternity brothers.

To ease the exertions of the day, we tried the old tradition of Feuerzangenbowle. Bbr. AH Frank Hecker v/o Franz von Hambach excelled in this, ensuring that the wine and rum supplies were steadily reduced. In addition to the well-known beneficial effects of Feuerzangenbowle on the body and mind, it is often used by fraternities as a wedge argument. In the course of the evening, we finally managed to convince Stefan von Schwarzwald. The signature was then washed down with homemade champagne: Franz von Hambach only needed a little bit of red wine and the soda maker.

4 Nov: Drug control

The last morning was approached a little more calmly than the previous days because of the long wedge work. After the hut had been brought back into shape in record time with the help of everyone after a long breakfast, we went back to the parking lot on the straight path mentioned above. Why nobody chose the path marked on the map between the valley and the hut until the end remains a mystery to this day.

When they arrived at the car park, the individual car crews said goodbye to each other and went their separate ways in the direction of Karlsruhe, Stuttgart, Aachen, Innsbruck and Munich. While the journey home was quick for most of them thanks to the short distance or the late departure from Munich, the active group had to work hard to get to Karlsruhe. A motorway closure made all sorts of detours necessary and highlighted the importance of navigation systems.

The chronicler thinks it is worth mentioning that a slightly battered Golf (rumour has it that it still had a MOT) with fraternity brothers inside who were at least as battered was stopped by a police patrol in the middle of nowhere. The initial target of the investigation was the vehicle, but the occupants made a more interesting investigation attractive: the search for drugs. However, after unsuccessfully searching the slightly musty-smelling underwear of the bewildered fraternity brothers, the journey could continue unhindered. Why, however, drug smugglers are being hunted between Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg remains unclear to this day.

Finally, I would like to thank everyone involved for this wonderful weekend. It was a welcome opportunity to renew contact with the current members of our association and to get to know the young fraternity brothers. The positive experience has led to the hut being reserved again for the weekend of November 1, 2002.

Auf der Hütte Thanks to the gift to our regulars' table, we can now also display the colors of the association in Bavarian restaurants. We should not forget that the Munich Black Forest residents were actively and financially supported by Stuttgart (Jöka), Aachen (Franz von Hambach) and the KDStV Rheno-Franconia (Crifi).
