We leave the superbly designed Canyon Roadhouse and continue our journey to the south of Namibia. Our stopover is Ai-Ais, which means "very hot" and refers to the thermal springs. These supply water at almost 60 degrees Celsius at around 30 liters per second, which is used in the local thermal baths. With over 40 degrees in the shade, this is not really tempting, so we just have a quick look around, where we also come across a group of baboons.

Before we leave, we want to fill up the tank, as we have used up quite a bit of petrol. When we asked, we were confirmed that we could get unleaded regular petrol (diesel is no longer available) and that we could pay by credit card. So everything was fine: we went to the pump and filled up the approx. 120 litres that we had used up to that point. But this confirms that in Namibia you should always fill up when you have the opportunity and not when there is a shortage: after 24 litres we had run out and the petrol station was empty. It was good that we had enough petrol to continue our journey, as the next delivery was coming in about 2 weeks.
We continue through the very barren but impressive landscape of southern Namibia. Science fiction films could certainly be shot here, because an alien planet would look like this. Endless expanses and dryness where you don't see anyone for hours. Golden rule: always take enough fuel and at least 10 liters of drinking water with you!

In Aussenkehr the landscape changes suddenly and we reach a wine-growing region in Namibia. Thanks to the Orange River, the border river to South Africa, table grapes, dates and other fruits can be grown here. The green landscape along the river is in stark contrast to the surrounding landscape.
In our accommodation, the Norotshama River Resort, we move into a beautiful chalet, which is located directly on the water. A pool fed by the river, excellent service and lush vegetation invite you to enjoy yourself. We prefer not to go swimming in the Oranje: firstly, it is currently carrying a lot of water and is therefore very fast, and secondly, the first queue greets us on the way there.
