6.1.2023: Astra Hunting Safaris

Stefan von Astra Hunting Safaris picks us and another guest up from the airport. We fill up the Toyota Land Cruiser at the airport (about 250 liters of petrol fit into the double tank) and drive to the farm in about half an hour. There we are greeted with a brunch and we get to know the farm's eight dogs.

One of the reasons we like staying on family-run farms is because you get to connect with the families directly. We get to know the parents, siblings and other family members and feel very welcome. We start the day relaxed and after tea time we set off on a tour of the farm grounds.

The tour takes us across the farm in an open safari vehicle, past various "posts" that need to be checked. In addition to the beautiful landscape, we discover kudus, zebras, a springbok, striped wildebeest, warthogs and oryx antelopes. This is almost like a game drive and, very happy with our safari luck, we meet the rest of the family on the local mountain for the obligatory sundowner. OK, the "mountain" is just a hill from our perspective, but the sunset is all the more beautiful.

In addition to gin and tonic, Savannah Dry, Tafel Lager and soft drinks, there is even an appetizer, which we can enjoy on the wonderfully located viewing and barbecue area. Later we drive back in the dark (the sun is currently setting at around 7:30 p.m.) and there is dinner: Kudu schnitzel with salad, vegetables, pasta and mushroom sauce. No diet!
