This morning, after breakfast, we only need a few minutes to reach the southern entrance of the Tarangire National ParkThe park is famous for its high concentration of elephants, some of which we were able to see from our accommodation. At first the sky remained cloudy during our game drive, which made the tour quite pleasant.
We discover giraffes, zebras, wildebeests, impalas and lots of dik-diks, the smallest antelope species in the world. Of course we also come across elephants and some of them come within a few metres of our car. Later we even see a bull elephant reaching into another vehicle's car with its trunk.
For our picnic we enjoy a wonderful view of the park again, but we have to be careful that the monkeys don't empty our lunch box. From there we take a small detour to the north out of the park, where we spent about 5 hours. Our journey takes us east to Arusha.
The Outpost Lodge is a small oasis in the middle of the city of Arusha, which has a population of one million. We arrive in the city at rush hour and the streets are accordingly busy. In fact, many things are reminiscent of India, even though the traffic and population density are much higher there. Nevertheless, the tuk-tuks, the small shops on the side of the road and the hustle and bustle on and off the street bring back memories of Pune or other "medium-sized" Indian cities.
Behind a wall that is more than two meters high lies the lodge with a garden, birds and houses, where we will be staying. It seems a bit surreal when the place is buzzing outside and you step past the security guards and find yourself in another world.
Here we say goodbye to our driver Julius and thank him. After a shower we head off to our first à la carte dinner.
