27 Aug: Serengeti

Of course, the spotted hyena visited us again last night and roamed through its territory during dinner. Our tents are in there and so it came by during the sundowner and walked just a few meters away from us and behind the main tent where the meals are served.
In the morning we are back at breakfast at 7:30 am sharp with our suitcases packed and after breakfast we set off on our last game drive through the Serengeti. And once again we have excellent wildlife sightings, e.g. zebras, elephants (which walk right between the cars), giraffes and of course lions (including eating a zebra, including several young ones). Our conclusion: While we already considered ourselves blessed with a lot of "hunting luck" on our last visits to Africa, the abundance of animals in the Serengeti beats everything. The predators in particular are represented in such large numbers that you can confidently guarantee seeing lions.

After eating our lunch at the information center in Seronera in the center of the Serengeti, we leave the national park in the direction of Ngorongoro. Before that, we have to get a quick repair done on the wheel hub, but the exhaust gives up on the way. This shows that the ubiquitous Toyota safari vehicles can be repaired anywhere, because our guide and driver Julius later gets the exhaust repaired in just 30 minutes in a workshop near the lodge.
The Rhino Lodge on the edge of the Ngorongoro Crater at 2,200m and it is accordingly cool in the evenings. When we arrive, a few zebras are grazing on the grounds of the lodge and later a few waterbucks walk past directly under our balconies. According to the staff, buffalo and elephants are also frequent guests. After two days in the tent, we enjoy the built-in shower and the space in the room.
