After 5 hours we reach the Manyara National Park and eat our picnic. Then we go on a game drive and the "hunting luck" is on our side. We see monkeys (baboons, diademed monkeys and velvet monkeys), giraffes, impalas, wildebeests, dik-diks, bushbucks, waterbucks and zebras. A highlight is a group of hippos that grunt and cause mischief in the hippo pool. In addition to many land and water birds, we are also impressed by the huge numbers of storks, pelicans and flamingos that populate the line on the horizon at Lake Manyara. After we finally get to see a group of elephants right next to our vehicle, the game drive is perfect and we drive to the Kirumuru Manyara Lodge.
When we arrive at the Kirumuru Manyara Lodge, we shower off the dust of the last two days and meet in the bar for a sundowner. The extensive complex accommodates its guests in large, permanently erected tents and is actually far too good for just one overnight stay.
