Our tour into the relatively small Arusha National Park starts at 9 a.m. We are picked up by Suma, who speaks German very well, and drive the short way from the lodge to the park entrance. After registration we set off and soon discover the first animals: waterbucks. This is followed by zebras, Cape buffalo, bushbucks, giraffes, zebra mongooses and more.
The endangered Columbus monkeys are particularly pretty. They are almost never on the ground, but always in the trees. We are also very fond of the many baboons, the young of which are particularly entertaining with their clumsy actions. Thanks to Suma's training in ornithology, we also learn a lot about the birds we see. These include herons, bee-eaters, cranes, flamingos on the large Lake Momella, and many others.
