Day 20 (6.9.): Ombuerendende

Unfortunately, we have to leave Okonjima and do so after a hearty breakfast including a Bushman's omelette: an omelette with onions, mushrooms, tomatoes, bacon and boereworst. You can actually only eat one of these, after that there is no room left in the stomach of a Central European. Overall, we were impressed by the professional management and the excellent condition of the facility, even if it means that the African adventure (you never know if it will work out and if so, when) is lacking.

Of course, our drive from the lodge to the main road is also a game drive and we see oryxes, warthogs, ostriches and other companions on our journey. However, there is one situation where we are very glad that we are not driving at the maximum speed: right in front of the first car, a kudu bursts out of the bush and races across the track. Shortly afterwards, the highlight comes in the form of a cat running crouched across the track. We can hardly believe our luck, but then a leopard sneaks from right to left right in front of the hood of our car, sits down under a tree and watches us. We couldn't be luckier.

The drive to Windhoek is not very spectacular, but we notice increasing traffic. The settlement becomes denser again and at some point you notice that a big city is approaching. In the center we take another break and buy a few souvenirs at the camping outfitter Cymot and drink an espresso at the coffee bar of Wecke & Voigts, the traditional department store that has existed in Windhoek since 1892.

Then we leave Windhoek again and take Christian, Lukas and a car back to the car rental company. As with the rental, everything goes smoothly and we are given a warm welcome. So we say goodbye and continue our journey to Omaheke.

When we arrive at Sigi and Heide's, we immediately feel like we're with old friends. The new and old dogs greet us enthusiastically, all changes are noted and news is exchanged. How is the farm going? How was the auction in South Africa? What are the children doing? And so on, until the cool night.
