Day 22 (8.9.): Farewell to Africa

We wake up well rested by the sun and the farm without an alarm clock and are happy to have breakfast with heather. While it is still cool at first, the sun quickly warms up the scene and in the end we sit outside after breakfast in our T-shirts and shorts as usual and put off the inevitable: packing our suitcases.

At some point we pull ourselves together and collect our belongings from the various suitcases and the car and distribute them as cleverly as possible. The aim is not to exceed the weight limit of a suitcase and at the same time to pack the fragile souvenirs safely. A non-trivial task, but one that we can manage with a little time.

Of course, the children also have to look after the dogs. Tipi, Krümel, Floh, Tessa and Sandy need to be petted and if the opportunity arises, the cat gets her ration too. Unfortunately, Sigi had to go back to court and, because of the African understanding of time, he won't be back in time before we leave. So he is unfortunately missing from the farewell photo that we take for Heide's guest book.

Take-Out Scenes from Joerg on Video.

After a sumptuous lunch (Spaghetti Bolognese, very African :-)) we set off on the trail and drive an hour to the car rental place. We arrive there at the same time as a family of three who will be on the same flight. Dropping off the car is as straightforward and problem-free as picking it up and we arrive at Hosea Kutako Airport at 4:30 p.m.

Thanks to Premium Economy, we quickly get rid of our suitcases and sit outside in the sun to eat the last of our supplies. Then we go to the security check, which is blessed with lots of forms and stamps. Because of the extremely slow check-in process, things go very quickly here, but you can't really talk about security. Our metal bottles aren't checked any more than smaller liquids or electronic devices.

At first we were missing 6 passengers, but later they were on board after another count. However, seats remained free and we were able to spread out a bit. Otherwise the flight was uneventful and we landed in Munich on time. We parted ways there and while Claudia and Marie-Luise drove to Karlsruhe, we were already home.
