UEFA Cup at the Allianz Arena

Allianz ArenaIt is well known that FC Bayern reached the round of 16 in the UEFA Cup this year. Their opponent on April 3, 2008 was the internationally relatively unknown club Getafe from a suburb of Madrid. This club emerged from a Real Madrid fan club and, as the number 3 Madrid club, is an outsider in the UEFA Cup.
Through a friend from the kindergarten regulars’ table (what isn’t such a good for alt) I had the opportunity to watch the game live in the Allianz Arena. Thanks again to Michael, who provided me with the season ticket as he didn't have time himself.
Now, I'm not a confirmed Bayern fan, but I wouldn't miss an international game at the Allianz Arena. So I drove to my first encounter with the stadium full of anticipation and was excited about the atmosphere and of course the game itself.

We travelled by subway and this turned out to be a very good idea. The subway was full as expected, but the logistics worked out brilliantly: the crowds spread out over the large forecourt between the subway station and the stadium and the checks at the entrance were also quick. Beforehand, you should buy an Arena Card at the ticket counters, which you can use to pay in the stadium. All in all, it took me about 20 minutes to get from the subway to my seat; much less than I expected.
The atmosphere and the structure were great. Because of the steep construction, there are actually no bad seats and you are always "in the middle of it all". Michael's work colleagues and Bayern fans welcomed me into their ranks and created a great atmosphere throughout the rest of the event - at least until shortly before the end.
The home team dominated the game at first and in front of 62,000 spectators, Luca Toni scored the 1-0 goal for Bayern in the 26th minute. There was huge cheering in the stadium and on the pitch, especially as it was expected that the score would not be just one goal. In the final minute, however, the Spanish cup finalists Getafe equalized to make it 1-1, which was not undeserved, and the mood had reached its lowest point.
Nonetheless, it was a wonderful experience and Bayern were able to reach a 3-3 draw in the return match in Madrid. This means they are one round further and narrowly avoided a humiliation against the underdog.
