28/29.04.2024: Damaraland/Twyfelfontein

Leaving the tranquil atmosphere of Kashana behind us, we continue our journey north towards the rugged landscapes of Damaraland. We drive through the stunning scenery of Damaraland and enjoy panoramic views of towering mountains, deep valleys and vast desert landscapes - a landscape shaped by the forces of time and nature.

Upon arrival at Twyfelfontein Adventure Camp, our accommodation for the next two nights, we are greeted by the warm hospitality of our hosts and the rustic charm of our surroundings. Nestled in the rugged beauty of Damaraland, this camp offers the perfect blend of comfort and adventure, providing an authentic bush experience under the African starry sky.

Twyfelfontein

In the morning we continue our adventure and head out in search of the elusive desert elephants that roam the dry riverbeds and rocky slopes of the Huab River. With their unique adaptation to the harsh desert environment, these magnificent creatures offer a rare glimpse into the wonders of nature's resilience.

In our search for these gentle giants, we will be rewarded with sightings of other desert-adapted animals such as ibexes and giraffes, perfectly adapted to this unforgiving landscape.

Picnic on the go

On the way back to Twyfelfontein Adventure Camp we meet at the pool and later gather around the campfire to share stories of our encounters and admire the beauty of the starry sky, grateful for the opportunity to experience the magic of Damaraland.

On the second morning we set out on a journey of discovery and visit the famous UNESCO World Heritage Site of Twyfelfontein. Here, amidst the ancient sandstone cliffs and rocky outcrops, we come across one of the largest concentrations of rock engravings in Africa, a testament to the cultural significance of this sacred site.
