We set off early in the morning and after being picked up at 4:30 a.m., we are at the airport in half an hour. Dropping off our suitcases takes a while because of the rush during the holidays, but there is still time for a butter pretzel and coffee before we set off.
The connection from Germany to Tanzania is very limited, so we have to KLM via Amsterdam to Arusha (Kilimanjaro Airport). We will meet the Fischer family, who are starting their journey from Frankfurt, in Amsterdam and fly on together from there.
The onward flight to Arusha departs on time and thanks to the reserved seats at emergency exits (thanks for the tip to concept travel) we have plenty of legroom. The plane is apparently one of the newest in the KLM fleet, so there are no complaints - not even about the food.
Unfortunately, one suitcase did not make it to Africa on a busy flight and it belongs to us. Luckily, it is the Fischers' suitcase for Zanzibar, which we can do without for 1-2 days.
So after the procedure at the “counter” of the Lost & Found, we load our remaining luggage onto the roof of the minibus (lifting 6 suitcases weighing 23 kg each is also a workout) and drive about 40 minutes to the African View LodgeAfter a short dinner, we head to our cozy houses.
